In January 1963, General Motors announced that its Pontiac Motor Division would no longer support, or output factory racecars such as the Super Duty. Liability was becoming too high for the vehicle manufacturer. When one reflects on the great cars being produced by Pontiac in those years, it becomes clear that so much of the spotlight was being taken away from other General Motors Divisions by the Super Duty lineup.

This 1964 Pontiac Tempest turned Super Duty clone received a no expense spared nut-and-bolt frame off restoration by a dedicated Pontiac loyalist and expert restorer. This stealthy dual-quad-carb, 500 HP, 455 CI sleeper will not only wake up the neighbors, but also allow you to forgo your morning Starbucks. Over-engineered with beefed up sway bars, traction bars, and enough power to make you wife cry, the Super Duty is cocked and loaded. The Pontiac definitely is not for the faint of heart off the line, but its handling is surprisingly atypical of peers built solely for the straighaway. Everything is new or rebuilt, and the level of craftsmanship is focused, and exceptionally tight. With a modern, over-sized aluminum radiator, and a large spark electronic MSD ignition, this car combines the best of the new, with a mean retro appearance including an authentic Super Duty hood scoop! The paint is hand rubbed and deep, and the interior is brand new.

The Pontiac Tempest Super Duty only saw production numbers of eleven. For the informed Pontiac enthusiast that doesn’t want to spend his or her life savings on a true Tempest Super Duty, this car is one of the best buys of the summer.
