The 1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO was the first mass production automobile to put a large CI motor in a mid-sized body, creating the first so-called "Muscle Car." In the 1960’s GM had a rule for its intermediates banning them from using any motor larger than 330 CI. To skip around this rule, the boys over at Pontiac created the GTO as option package which allowed them to place a high performance 389 in the Tempest. Pontiac aimed to sell just over 5,000 of these option packages, however, by years end, over 34,000 had been sold and the Muscle Car Era had begun.

This 1964 Pontiac GTO is finished in Yorktown Blue Poly over a beautifully restored black interior. The PHS documented car has a date code correct engine, transmission and correct rear end. She is a real Tri-Power, 4-speed car from the factory, and a recipient of a two year old, complete frame off rotisserie restoration. The Goat is impeccably detailed from top to bottom and is ready to show or cruise.

At the start of the restoration, the body was placed on a rotisserie and was stripped down to bare metal. After hours of block sanding, it the Pontiac received a brand new coat of base/clear paint. The original stainless trim around the windows has been restored and all of the chrome was rechromed. During reassembly, the car received all new rubber from front to rear and all new window felts. Even the often neglected wing windows have been properly restored.

While the body was off of the chassis, the frame was media blasted and refinished in a clean new coat of GM semi gloss black. All of the suspension and brake components were replaced from front to rear on the GTO, and all of the steel brake lines and fuel hoses have also been replaced.

The interior is new from top to bottom and shows in like-new condition. Prior to installation of the all the new parts, the car received a layer of Dynamat throughout to cut down on noise, heat, and vibrations. After that, the factory style jute backing was laid down as well as new firewall insulation. The seat springs have been sorted and new foam was added to the seats before the covers were fitted. The headliner is brand new as is the carpeting, door panels, and dash pad. The Rally dash comes equipped with the factory tachometer, and take one look under the dash and everything is brand new. All the wiring is from a proper factory reproduction harness including a new fuse box.

The engine, transmission and rear end have all been rebuilt. The engine features the correctly sequenced carbs on the Tri-Power setup and is date code correct. The transmission is the close ratio M21 Muncie and the rear end is equipped with the Safe-T-Trac 3.90 gears. The car uses the stock exhaust manifolds and has a super clean Magnaflow exhaust system from front to rear. The car makes great power and is a blast to drive.
