The block was decked when the engine was rebuilt, so at this point, it’s hard to tell if the Chevelle still has the original motor. The car does has the correct intake, heads, exhaust manifolds and carburetor. The original TH400 had seen better times and was replaced during the restoration with a different TH400. The correct RU code rear end was still with the car and has been rebuilt with all new gears, a new posi unit, and pinion bearing

On out the road, the Chevelle is a very nice driving car thanks a complete overhaul of the suspension and brake systems.. The front suspension has been completely rebuilt/replaced including the tie rods, spindles, ball joints, shock absorbers, end links, and swaybar bushings. The entire brake systems was overhauled including all lines, calipers, backing plates, wheel cylinders, drums, rotors, and rear pads.

In order to preserve what started out as a very nice survivor, the Chevelle received a sympathetic restoration of the body as to not disturb what did not need to be repaired. The Chevelle was stripped down to bare metal during the restoration to reveal a totally solid body without any rust damage. Prior to restoration, the car had a solid original undercarriage and excellent body lines, so the decision was made to thoroughly detail the undercarriage and not remove the body from the frame as not to disturb the body gaps. All of the trim and chrome was either replaced or reconditioned, and the undercarriage was repainted. Also new are all the light covers and bezels, and all of the rubber on the car.

The interior has been restored from top to bottom with all new soft parts. Prior to installation of the new carpeting, the car received Dynamat from front to rear. All of the handles and window cranks were replaced, as were the interior lights and package tray. Also new are the door panels and seat covers, and the center console sports a shiny new staple shifter. You will find new air/heat vents on the dash, and also date code correct seat belts and the proper steering wheel. The Chevelle was a factory air car, and during the restoration it received a modernized Vintage Air system that blows strong, ice cold air into the cabin. While not totally original, the performance much improved over the 1970’s A/C gear.
