Classic American cars from the 1960’s can be pretty rusty if they lived the wrong climate all their lives. So, why not buy rust free California car, and really live it up? This 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback A code was built at the Dearborn Plant on March 11, 1966. The car then made its way to Los Angeles, California where it lived its life in a sunny climate, free from the horrors of iron oxide. It is now the recipient of a 6 year old rotisserie restoration where it received a mechanical and cosmetic rebuild back to showroom condition. Finished in quintessential Candy Apple Red over a red interior, this Mustang gets in the door with its instantly recognizable classic styling and really works the room with its high quality restoration.

During the restoration, upon stripping the car down to bare metal, it was completely rust free. All of the correct spots welds remain in place on the floor boards and even the rocker panels (which are generally reworked with considerable body filler) still have the date stamps visible through the paint. Now that’s what we like to see! The floors are in excellent condition from the topside down as well, with no rust present from years of water brought into the vehicle by wet feet. The undercarriage was refinished in a nice coat of semi gloss black, and shows great detail work. There is no undercoating to be seen, so that nice West Coast metal really stands out. The torque boxes are in excellent condition and there are no visible patch panels. As it sits, the car has excellent fit and finish throughout the body. The door gaps are excellent, as is the fitment of the hood. Even the headlight buckets (which often fit poorly even from the factory) fit evenly all the way around. All of the brightwork has been refinished, and the chrome has been replaced. All of the exterior trim is new (or NOS) as well, and looks sharp. The Mustang has been refinished in base/clear Candy Apple Red (T) and has been color sanded and buffed to a mirror shine.

When the car was apart for the body work, the suspension and brakes were completely replaced, rebuilt and refinished. All the lines and hoses were replaced in the brake system and the front end has new ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rod ends and steering linkage. The car uses a set of front disc and rear drums that stop the car with ease. The Ford benefits from a new set of Redline Radials mounted to a brand new set of Magnum 500 Mustang wheels. These handle significantly better than the original bias plys did and ride much nicer as well.

The engine is a completely rebuilt 289 A-code and is equipped with an Edelbrock intake and an Edelbrock carb with an electric choke. The car fires up and runs like a top and is perfect for cruising to your local shows. The engine compartment is highly detailed and the motor is surrounded by a clean coat of semi gloss black paint. The engine really pops inside the compartment with the engine dress up kit and is ready to show. The motor is hooked to a 4 speed toploader transmission with the correct reverse lockout in place.

For the Mustang enthusiast looking for one of the sportiest original Mustangs, this Fastback is the quite the looker!
